I keep having dreams about my ex. For some background we’ve been broken up for three years- she being the one who ended the relationship. She reached out once a month after the break up saying that she wants to be in eachothers lives and wanted to have a conversation. I told her that I needed some time and space but I never reached out again. She reached out a few more times after that. Once in my birthday and then again randomly last year to check in. I haven her blocked on all socials and I DELETED her phone number sometime earlier this year. I went back and actually blocked her number to ensure that I don’t hear from her again. I do know that she is in another partnership- however I’m told by my spiritual advisor that her partnership isn’t exactly harmonious and that she is still wanting to reach out to me to check in. Anyways I’ve been having multiple dreams about her lately. One being that her and her partner were touring my mom’s house to purchase. When they were climbing the stairs to each floor I was ahead of them trying not to be seen. Another dream was that we were in a shared space together with some friends. She was tying to have a moment to speak with me when I overhead one of her friends saying that I was never the one for her because I wasn’t her type. I then said to her out loud that she wasn’t the one for me because she isn’t a man (I am now dating a man in my real life) Last night in my dream, it seemed like she and I both were looking at eachother socials. As I was scrolling through I noticed that she redid her house a bit, although it looked the same and that her hair was no longer in locks but short as if she had combed them out. I also realized that although, the person was not it in, there was someone obviously filming her which I assumed was her partner. Then I realized that she is blocked so I was questioning how I was able to see her pages. When I woke up this morning I decided to take a look at my block list on Instagram and I see that she changed her profile picture and she did actually cut her hair in real life. In all the dreams I have this feeling that I can’t be seen. More specifically the inner dialogue is “I can’t be seen like this”. However, in my life I’m in such a better place than I was when I was with her. I look good I feel good and I’m thriving so I have nothing to hide or be ashamed of.. so I don’t know why that feeling comes up.
Dreams involving an ex-partner, especially recurring ones, can be complex and often carry emotional significance. Let's explore the potential meanings and symbolism in the dreams you’ve described:
In this dream, your ex and her partner are touring your mom's house to potentially purchase it. Houses in dreams often symbolize our self or our life. Your mom's house could represent aspects of your familial or deeper emotional self. The act of them touring it might suggest that parts of your past or personal history feel like they are being evaluated or are subject to scrutiny by your past relationship experiences.
Avoiding Being Seen: Your desire to not be seen might indicate a fear of vulnerability or a wish to avoid confrontation with past emotions. Despite feeling better and having moved on, there could be residual feelings of vulnerability concerning how your ex perceives you or how you perceive your progress since the breakup.
Here, the situation occurs in a shared space where you’re surrounded by mutual friends. This could symbolize shared social connections or memories you both have, and how they still play a part in your psyche.
Dialogue and Defense: The conversation overheard seems to address insecurities or perceived judgments from others. Your response, highlighting your current identity and preferences, suggests an assertion of your present life's choices and who you are now. This could reflect an inner dialogue where you're reconciling who you used to be with who you’ve become.
This dream where you’re both seemingly observing each other through social media might reflect feelings of curiosity or residual connection. Social media in dreams can symbolize the face we present to the world and how we perceive others.
Changes Noticed: Observing changes in her appearance or surroundings might signify how you’re recognizing changes and growth in your own life. It's interesting that these changes were reflected in reality, suggesting a strong subconscious awareness or intuition.
"I Can’t Be Seen Like This": This recurring theme of avoidance might indicate an inner conflict or unresolved feelings. Even though you are in a better place now, it could be that this phrase symbolizes an old defense mechanism from the past relationship – a protection against judgment or misunderstanding.
These dreams may suggest that your subconscious mind is processing unresolved emotions from your past relationship. The recurring nature of not wanting to be seen may stem from a lingering desire to maintain your autonomy and privacy from this past relationship, despite having moved on.
Dreams like these also highlight your personal growth journey, where you are acknowledging past insecurities while affirming your new path in life. It seems you’ve reached a point where you can assertively differentiate your past self from who you are now, recognizing your worth and the positive changes you’ve undergone.
Consider reflecting on any lingering attachments or emotions, and perhaps use these dreams to explore if there are any aspects of that past relationship that you would like to finally lay to rest, emotionally. Engaging with a therapist or counselor might provide additional insights, helping ensure that you continue to thrive without past hang-ups influencing your future.
